How will the game look & sound?
Right from the start we were quite certain that the game should be in 2D and hand-made throughout. There were moments of confusion early on, but since Kevin, our art director and industry veteran of 18 years, came on-board we were able to get our style and art direction shipshape.
The artistic style aims for a semi-realistic, hand-painted European comic-book look, with simple outlines and colours, detail on foreground characters and items, with a receding level of detail on backgrounds.

Our focus for sound is to ensure that the soundscape helps to create the atmosphere of sailing and rowing a wooden ship on the North Sea. Waves, sea birds, wind, oars, swearing seafarers come together to complement the gameplay.
